First Class Room 9: Questions for Simon

In anticipation of Tatyana’s visit from the Dublin Simon Community on Friday 2nd October we have been talking and discussing the issue of homelessness. We came up with some questions that we want to ask Tatyana. First Class Room 9: Talk on Syria

First and Second class had a very informative talk from Louise who works for GOAL. GOAL are an organisation that promote the right to basics of life, food, water, shelter, healthcare and literacy. Louise has recently spent some time in Syria and told us all about the devastating situation there that is causing families like you or I to run and flee their lovely homes. She showed us before pictures of the streets of Syria. It was a very beautiful place. Unfortunately now though because of the war people are leaving their country and looking for a safe place to shelter. Here in Citywest & Saggart CNS we are going to help them We are collecting foodstuffs for them and we are going to send them over to them in an airplane. We hope you can help them too! First Class Room 9: Maths Stations

First class do maths stations three times weekly. In our maths stations their are four fun activities. Each group gets to do two activities daily. Station 1: pairs were counting regular sets of bottle caps. Their partner put out two handfuls of caps, and they then had to count out the caps and record their answer on a mini whiteboard! Station 2: pairs were counting irregular sets. Their partner put out two handfuls of irregular items – teddies, bottle caps and lollipop sticks, and the other person had to count out the items and record their answer on a mini whiteboard! Station 3 : pairs were estimating and recording the amount of items in a set. Estimating is when we guess a number! Station 4: this was so much fun! Pairs had to match a number to a counted set of giant hoops! Maths is so much fun and we are budding mathematicians! For more photos of us busy at maths please click...

First Class Room 9: Toy Talk

First class brought in the toys that they used to play with when they were only toddlers! We talked to all our classmates about the different toys we brought in asking two very important questions – 1. What is your toys name? 2. What age were you when you got your toy? We had some very interesting toys, from tough turtles to cuddly cats! For more photos of our talk on toys please click here....

First Class Room 9: 2D Shapes

First Class have recently completed a fortnights work on 2D shapes!  We learned all about the square, rectangle, triangle, circle, semicircle. Did you know that a 2D shape is always, ALWAYS flat! We did so many fun activities that helped us to become shape superheros! We examined each shape and counted the number of sides and corners. We constructed squares, rectangles, triangles, circles and semicircles using geostrips and geoboards. We also folded the squares, rectangles, triangles, circles and semicircles in half and coloured them in! Do you know what shape a square becomes when folded and coloured in half? Below is a picture of a circle that the entire class made using geostrips. We worked together as a team to create a circle big enough that would fit the 25 of us! For more photos of our learning on 2D shapes please click...
