First Class Room 8: Architects

Today in art Room 8 sketched the school building. As India is our theme for the month we looked at school buildings in India. Emma thinks that many of the schools in India look very big. Ms Bates, gave us the task of sketching the school building. We each got clipboard and sheet of paper, we went outside and observed the school then sketched for 5 minutes. Even though our school building is very large with many windows, we did a fantastic job! Click here for...

First Class: Lights, Camera, FREEZE!

We had so much fun today in class doing drama. Ms. Bates read us a story during the week where the main character of the story Leela and Tig’ was feeling jealous. We discussed a time when we felt jealous and decided that it was important that even when your feeling jealous you must still try to be a good friend. We worked in groups to create freeze frames. Our freeze frames had to depict a scenario when we might feel jealous. It was so much fun!! (pictures to...

First Class Room 8: Counting in 2s

The children in Room 8 have been working very hard on their counting. Since coming in to first class the children have learned how to count in 2s! Just last week, during maths stations they children noticed that all the numbers which we say when counting in 2s are EVEN numbers. Even numbers are numbers that are paired. e.g. 2=1+1, 4=2+2 We used this fun and catchy song to help us count in 2s We wonder if it will be tricky to count in...

First Class Room 9: Ordinal Numbers

Room 9 have been learning all about ordinal numbers this week. An ordinal number is a number that tells the position of something in a list. Ordinal numbers are in our life everyday. Every week in our class there is a new line leader or a new child in first place. Ordinal numbers can be written both as a word and as a numeral. For some photos of our hand’s on learning please click here. Below is how we write them as words and numerals: 1st       First 2nd     Second 3rd      Third 4th      Fourth 5th      Fifth 6th      Sixth 7th      Seventh 8th      Eighth 9th      Ninth 10th    Tenth Below is an interesting video that helped us learn all about ordinal numbers!...

Senior Infants Room 7: The Construction Site

Room 7 have been busy working in the construction site. They have been role-playing architects, foremen, construction workers and safety officers, learning to draw up plans and convert these into real buildings! They have been using lots of language associated with the construction site like bricks, hammer, hard hat, digger, cement mixer, dump-truck etc. They have also been learning about the story of the Three Little Pigs. In science we built houses made of bricks, straw and sticks to investigate which ones the Big Bad Wolf could not blow down! Have a look at our pictures to see us working in the construction site and making houses for the three little pigs!   For more pictures, please click...

Junior Infants Room 5: Our CSCNS Chicks!

As most of you will know, we had lots of excitement in school over the last few weeks in the form of baby chicks. The chicks were placed in an incubator and kept for 21 days before they hatched, which caused lots of excitement around the school. This allowed for great learning for all of the children, as they discovered what chickens need to survive and grow, as well as learning all about the life cycle of a chicken. It also provided a great opportunity for the children to learn how to handle and care for animals in a very fun way. To see pictures of Room 5 holding the baby chicks, click here! We will really miss our new friends, but hopefully we can visit them in their new home...
