We have been busy learning loads about the medical centre and the opticians. We loved playing the nurse, the doctor, the patient, the optician and the receptionist. We made patterned glasses and doctors tools. We have been testing each others eyes and prescribing medicine for sick patients. We have been practising the phrases “I need to get my eyes tested.” and “Where is the pain?”. We know lots of different body parts and soon we are going to be learning all about the 5 senses. Room 3 have been exploring The Pizza Restaurant as our Aistear theme for the last week. We have been enjoying dressing up as waitresses, waitors and chefs so that we can serve our customers some delicious pizza. We have been practising using the phrases ‘what would you like to order?’, ‘can I have the bill please?’ and ‘how was your meal?’. Number strategies help us when working with numbers in maths. The strategies we have used so far in First Class are friendly numbers and the count on strategy. This week in maths, Room 9 have been learning all about the doubles number strategy in maths. Doubles are two numbers that are the same. When we know our doubles they make it easier for us to add! During maths lessons this week we used unifix cubes to make doubles up to twenty. We even learned a groovy song called the Doubles Game. You can check it out here. Sep 23, 2016 | Junior Infants – Ms Larkin
What a super start the Junior Infants in Room 2 have made this year! They have learnt so much already and have made so many new friends in school. They have learnt lots of new songs and rhymes including- Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and Jill, the Five Little Ducks, and are getting really good at recognising all of their shapes, colours and numbers! They had great fun exploring the school on their shape and colour hunts, and especially enjoyed drawing shapes all over the yard in chalk 🙂 They are getting really good at cutting and colouring carefully, and are doing really good listening during their circle time activities, learning about their friends, their families, and all the things that make them special and unique.
