Junior Infants School Tour and Teddy Bear Picnic

What an adventure the Junior Infants had on their first ever school tour to Imaginosity! They loved getting the big bus with their friends, and counting down the minutes (literally) until they arrived. They had a picnic outside Imaginosity before they went in, to give them lots of energy for playing, and play they did! They started on the top level in the garden with the sleeping badger- zzZZZ! Then they climbed the tunnel, went into the house, used diggers to build and break down walls, and played with the dolls houses and pattern blocks. Next they made their way to the recording studio where they played dress up and read the news on a REAL telly! On the first floor they went shopping for food in the supermarket, served it up in the diner, played doctor in the surgery, and raced lots of very fast cars!              The Junior Infants had so much fun, and made their teachers and parents very proud by playing nicely, sharing with eachother, and by being very respectful and cleaning up before they went home. To reward them, and celebrate all of their learning this year, the Junior Infants had a teddy bear’s picnic on the yard and you can see more photos of them  right here. Well done Junior Infants – you’re going to be super Senior Infants next year 🙂...

Junior Infants Room 2: Learning Adventures!

Room 2 love having visitors, and going on adventures! They have been particularly lucky over the last term, and have learnt so much from a number of special visitors, including their very own grandparents. The grandparents came and told them all about what school was like when they grew up. They did a wonderful job of answering the children’s questions, and even read them a number of stories.  Huge thanks to the grandparents for coming in!   The next visitor to Room 2 was the lovely Ms Rojak, who came to help the children learn lots in school. She even took them on a 3D shape hunt. What 3D shapes did they find around the school? Thanks for helping us learn Ms Rojak!        The next visitor the children had was small, woolly, and a bit shy… can you guess what it was? A Spring lamb! They each had a turn to pet the baby lamb, and ask its owner about it. Many thanks to Care and Cuddles for bringing it in to show us.   Next, as part of their learning the Room 2 super stars took a trip to the local café Insomnia as part of human rights month, to learn all about fair trade. Many thanks to the café manager Elizabeth, and to the mums and dads who accompanied us. Room 2 would also like to say a special thanks to Múinteoir Aoife, from Music Generation, for coming to teach them music this year. They loved learning all the wonderful songs and music games she taught them, and especially loved using her percussion instruments and...

Junior Infants: Summer Nature Walk

Summer is finally here and the Junior Infants have been learning all about the summer season through their five senses- sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste. To celebrate their learning, they went on a nature hunt to the local park to look out for all the signs of summer. They completed a ‘signs of summer’ check list, played parachute games with their friends, and chilled out in the playground afterwards. Summer sure is fun! Can you see spot the signs of summer in their...

Sports for schools… and life! Brian Gregan’s Visit to CSCNS

The children at CSCNS were extremely excited to welcome Irish International Sprinter Brian Gregan to the school on Friday, the 9th of March. The Dublin Athlete is the second fastest Irish man ever over 400m, and has represented Ireland in athletics all across the globe. Brian and his fellow sports stars led a high-energy sponsored fitness circuit with all the pupils at CSCNS, and really gave them a run for their sponsorship- money! After their work out, Brian spoke to the children about his background. They learnt that he had to overcome several challenges, including a very serious injury, to become the super athlete he is today. They asked him excellent questions, and learnt that he grew up in Tallaght, like many of them, and shared lunch with the Olypmic Games champion Usain Bolt!      The aim of the event was ultimately to inspire the pupils to get involved in sports, to pursue their dreams in spite of challenges presented to them, and to raise additional funds for P.E. equipment for the school. Many thanks to Brian and all of the athletes who visited the school in conjunction with the Sports For Schools Initiative, and to Ms Bates for co-ordinating the visit. Special thanks must also be extended to all of the parents, relatives and friends who sponsored the children who participated, and well done to them for being such enthusiastic participants. We hope they will get much enjoyment and benefit out of the new PE equipment they have helped to raise funds for at their school over the coming years. Junior Infants Room 2: Learning is FUN!

The Junior Infants have been learning so much over the last few weeks, and we’ve just about managed to catch a  few photos of them busy at work and play below! They loved having a doctor’s surgery in the classroom and learned all about living things, and what they need to grow. They made excellent doctors, nurses and patients! They have gotten very good at spotting the rhyming words in their nursery rhymes ‘Miss Polly Had a Dolly‘ and  ‘Doctor Foster‘, and retelling the story of ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors‘.  See here for more photos of the Room 2 Doctors and nurses!       They traded in their doctor’s surgery for a Clothes shop next, and loved designing, describing and making their own clothes and mittens to go with their favourite story, ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ using lots of different textured materials. Ask them to sing their Smartest Giant in Town song for you, or their Three Little Kittens Ryhme. They are really good at comparing height, and spotting the shortest and tallest people in their class now, and they’ve even been building tall and short robots during play time-check them out here!    The Junior Infants particularly enjoyed Maths4Fun, when lots of their mums and dads came in and played fun maths games with them, and talked to them about all the different ways we use maths- many thanks to all of them for coming in to help us learn! This is one of their favourite maths songs so far- In On Under and they loved playing directions games, hiding and finding different objects! Take a look at...

Junior Infants Room 2: There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo!

Room 2 have gone animal mad! They have had great fun reading the story of The Gruffalo, singing their Gruffalo song, and making and painting Gruffalo’s in art during play time! Ms Larkin and Vinny are beginning to wonder if they are going to turn into Gruffalos , uhoh!!   They had Dr Hugh the Vet in to teach them all about how to care for animals, and are doing a great job of caring for their pet goldfish LoveHeart. They have also been doing super sorting in Maths, sorting sets of animals and shapes according to their different properties. Ms. Glynn and Ms. Larkin were super impressed with their sorting skills this term! Please see photos of them and all their animal adventures in the Petshop, on the farm, and in the Vet’s here!  Well done Room 2, you are super stars and super vets in...
