Junior Infants Room 2: Parents, Grandparents and Pancakes!

What a busy fortnight Room 2 have had! They have been having so much fun playing maths games with the parents as part of Maths 4 Fun, and really enjoyed their grandparents’ visit to the school as part of Grandparents day. Room 2 are a very kind and thoughtful class, and decided to make a video of themselves performing their grandparents poem for all the grandparents who couldn’t make it in to visit them- please click here to view it! They were also very kind to the elves in the story of the ‘Elves and the Shoemaker’, and made them amazing little gifts out of different materials- an elf car, helicopter, skateboard, and lots of little hats and jumpers! They celebrated Pancake Tuesday this week and really enjoyed chatting to their friends about what toppings they like best on their pancakes. One of their favourite songs  at the minute is How’s The Weather? and they are currently learning how to do a weather report as Gaeilge! Tá an lá fuair (cold), te (hot), fliuch (wet), tirim (dry)! For more photos of them at work (and play!) please see here 🙂...

Junior Infants Room 2: The Clothes Shop

Room 2 have been learning all about the clothes shop this week. They made shopping lists, wonderful clothes out of different materials, and used their money (1, 2 and 5 cents) to buy their friends presents, checking the clothes were the right size, and not too big or small. They learnt a new rhyme about three little kittens who lost their mittens, made their own set of patterned mittens and created waterproof coats for Vinny so he doesn’t get wet in that rainy weather we’ve been having recently… especially now that we can make rain in room 2 with our rainmakers! Room 2 have been learning lots about the weather and decided it rains a LOT during the Winter season in Ireland! Junior Infants Room 2: The Smartest Giants in Room 2!

Room 2 has been taken over by the smartest little giants who have been very busy practicing and writing their new numbers and sounds this week.  They have been reading the brilliant story of ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’, learning all about the characters in it, and talking about how kind the giant was to his friends. They made masks to act out the story with, worked with their elbow buddies to build and find their way around the giant’s town, going backwards, forwards, over, under and around the bridges and rivers, and even made themselves into smart little giants using lovely materials Vinny left for them as a surprise- they may be short giants but they have very long legs! They have also been learning all about clothes and the weather this week, made their own weather wheels, and learnt a new ryhme about a little boy who was so tired he got all of his clothes mixed up before going to bed! Well done Room 2, what a  smart little bunch of giants you are! For more photos of these smart little giants at work see...

Junior Infants Room 2: Winter Wonder Class!

Room 2 have been doing wonderful work over the Winter season! They made some fantastic charts recording their favourite community helpers, and figured out that most people in the class wanted to be a scientist or a doctor, and less people wanted to be vets, dentists, or a police man or lady. They have also been exploring length, worked together to order lots of objects from shortest to longest, and made a class height chart to see who was tallest and who was shortest. They practiced lots of songs and rhymes for their Winter Concert and really enjoyed learning their Snowflake song and penguin dance! Room 2 have been caring for their hyacinths this Winter by giving them all the things living things need to grow– air to breath,  light, water to drink, and food and a home (soil) to grow in- their plants are getting very tall now! They had great fun exploring touch as one of their five senses, read “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”, and did a touch-test with their elbow buddy who blind-folded them and guided their hand into different pots of soft, dry grass, cool river water, squishy mud, cold, hard ice-cubes, and soft, warm fur! They had great words to describe what they felt! Which do you think would feel nicest? Well done Room 2, Ms. Larkin and Vinny think you are a Winter Wonder Class 🙂 For more photos of them at work this Winter see...

Junior Infants Room 2: C-C-C-Community!

Room 2 have been learning all about their community over the last few weeks, as well as the ‘c/k’ sound!  They built their own towns, matched different community helpers to the places they work, and were very fortunate to have had two Fire Fighters from the Dublin Fire Brigade visit them yesterday, along with all of their friends in Rooms 1 and 5. Fire Fighters Alan and Karl taught the Junior Infants all about fire safety, and recruited them onto their ‘Fire Safety Team’ for the Winter period, when we have to be so careful of lights and candles in our homes… Well done Room 2 on being excellent community helpers this week 🙂 For more photos of them hard at work, learning and playing, please see...

Junior Infants Room 2: Taispáin Dom… !

This week Room 2 have been putting all the Irish they have learnt into practice, finding lots of things around the room when Ms. Larkin calls out ‘Taispáin dom…!’ (show me…) – they are getting so good at their Gaeilge 🙂  They have also been exploring the theme of Community (the people and place where we live) and have been busy in the Doctor’s surgery, making sure Ms. Polly’s Dolly gets better! They made wonderful colourful art works by ‘taking a dot for a walk‘ , creating lots of interesting lines (curvy, straight, zig zag!). Room 2 also made two class charts this week, and discovered that the class’s favourite shape is the circle, and their favourite pet is the rabbit, because most people liked them! Well done on another super week at school 🙂 For more photos please click...
