Junior Infants Room 2: Hands On!

Room 2 have had a hands on week- exploring the theme of the 5 Senses and playing with lots of fabric and fibre materials. They made wonderful textured hands and came up with a great list of words to describe how their materials felt- soft, rough, smooth, bumpy! They have also been learning lots about animals this week, the kind that are found in the pet shop and those that are found on the farm (Old MacDonald is their favourite!) and have even begun to learn about animals that hibernate in Winter.  They also made lovely ‘Guess How Much I Love You? ‘ hugging-hands for their parents, using long instead of short string to show how much they love them (LOTS!) and are getting really good at putting their hands into the mála draíochta and figuring out ‘Cad atá sa mhála?’ i nGaeilge!   To see more photos of these busy hands at work please...

Junior Infants Room 2: A Busy Week!

Room 2 have had a very busy week, singing their hearts out in preparation for their Welcoming Ceremony, making lovely Diwali candles for Inter-Belief Week at Citywest & Saggart CNS, and exploring the theme of ‘The Pet Shop’. They sorted out  animals at the Pet Shop, selected their favourite one, and played ‘shop keeper’ and ‘customer’ with their 1 , 2 and 5 cent coins. They made wonderful Gruffalo puppets with fabric and fiber materials, sang and acted out Baa Baa Black Sheep and sorted his bags of wool for him. Room 2 are getting really good at comparing sets to see which has more and which has less, and figuring out what needs to be done to make them the same. Well done Room 2 on another busy but brilliant week, and a huge thanks to all those who made it to the Welcoming Ceremony. For more photos of their busy week please...

Junior Infants Room 2: Super Scientists!

Room 2 became Super Scientists this week in school! On Monday they were paid a visit by Scientists David and John (and a VERY BIG spider and scorpion!) who did lots of great experiments with them, and showed them how sugary foods and drinks like coke can stain our teeth unless we brush them well. Room 2 are learning all about living things at the moment, and are getting really good at knowing how to tell if something is living or not living- does it breath, move, grow, eat and drink, have babies or respond to the weather? They are also learning how to care for living things, and planted Hyacinths this week which they hope will grow over the next few weeks if they give them plenty of water and sunlight. They also experimented with balloons, and learnt how to charge up their balloons with electricity so they could pick up all the lovely materials Vinny left for them as a surprise! Well done Room 2 on all the great learning you did over Science Week 🙂 For more photos of the Super Scientists in Room 2 please click...

Junior Infants Room 2: Autumn Adventures

Room 2 have had another busy week, making lots of sets and patterns, sorting 1, 2 and 5 cent coins, reading and acting out ‘The Gruffalo’ with their strong speaking voices and learning all  about the Autumn season. They learnt a new song about the colours of the Autumn Leaves and created lovely Autumn animals and trees with leaves! Room 2 have also been learning about electricity, and the dangers associated with it, and were visited on Friday by Katie from the Road Safety Authority who gave them high-vis jackets and taught them the Safe Cross Code! They have also been learning about their 5 senses (eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, nose for smelling, tongue for tasting and hands for touching!), and did a taste test identifying salty, sugary, bitter and sour food – some of which they liked 🙂 more than others 🙁 !   To see more pictures of their Autumn Adventures this week please see...

Junior Infants Room 2: Maths Week

Room 2 have had a brilliant Maths Week! They learnt a new song  ‘One Potato, Two Potato’ , counted their potatoes and used them to print in art! They weighed lots of things (including one young lady’s shoe!) and ordered them from lightest to heaviest. They went on a shape hunt around the school and used their maths eyes to spot shapes and make shape people, lovely 2-colour patterns with stickers, and programmed bee-bots to move, predicting how many steps they would need to take to get to their neighbour! Room 2 are getting really good at sharing with their friends, Vinny and Ms. Larkin are super proud of them. Have a lovely and well earned rest over the Midterm Room 2 – but don’t forget to look out for all those magic shapes and numbers all around you 🙂 For more photos please click here!...

Junior Infants Room 2: Patterns And Pals

Room 2 made lots of lovely new  patterns with their cubes and sponges this week, pointing out what comes first,  next, before and after. They made shopping lists for their trip to the class market, weighed their shopping, and experimented with lots of magnets, sorting things that are magnetic from things that aren’t! As part of Anti-Bullying week at Citywest & Saggart CNS, Room 2 also talked about what it means to be a good friend to their pals, and made giant posters identifying five people they can go to if they think they are being bullied. Well done Room 2 on a super week at school 🙂 For more photos please click here....
