Junior Infants Room 2: Learning is FUN!

The Junior Infants have been learning so much over the last few weeks, and we’ve just about managed to catch a  few photos of them busy at work and play below! They loved having a doctor’s surgery in the classroom and learned all about living things, and what they need to grow. They made excellent doctors, nurses and patients! They have gotten very good at spotting the rhyming words in their nursery rhymes ‘Miss Polly Had a Dolly‘ and  ‘Doctor Foster‘, and retelling the story of ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors‘.  See here for more photos of the Room 2 Doctors and nurses!       They traded in their doctor’s surgery for a Clothes shop next, and loved designing, describing and making their own clothes and mittens to go with their favourite story, ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ using lots of different textured materials. Ask them to sing their Smartest Giant in Town song for you, or their Three Little Kittens Ryhme. They are really good at comparing height, and spotting the shortest and tallest people in their class now, and they’ve even been building tall and short robots during play time-check them out here!    The Junior Infants particularly enjoyed Maths4Fun, when lots of their mums and dads came in and played fun maths games with them, and talked to them about all the different ways we use maths- many thanks to all of them for coming in to help us learn! This is one of their favourite maths songs so far- In On Under and they loved playing directions games, hiding and finding different objects! Take a look at...

Junior Infants Room 2: There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo!

Room 2 have gone animal mad! They have had great fun reading the story of The Gruffalo, singing their Gruffalo song, and making and painting Gruffalo’s in art during play time! Ms Larkin and Vinny are beginning to wonder if they are going to turn into Gruffalos , uhoh!!   They had Dr Hugh the Vet in to teach them all about how to care for animals, and are doing a great job of caring for their pet goldfish LoveHeart. They have also been doing super sorting in Maths, sorting sets of animals and shapes according to their different properties. Ms. Glynn and Ms. Larkin were super impressed with their sorting skills this term! Please see photos of them and all their animal adventures in the Petshop, on the farm, and in the Vet’s here!  Well done Room 2, you are super stars and super vets in...

Junior Infants Rooms 1, 2, 5: Junior Fire Fighters!

The Junior Infants have been learning all about their local community- the people and place where they live. They loved singing their community song; ask them what job they would like to have when they grow up! As part of their learning, they were super lucky to have two local Fire Fighters, Alan and Carl, visit them last week, to tell them all about their jobs, and to teach them about fire safety. They gave the JI’s three simple rules to stay safe if they see or smell a fire: Get out Stay out Get the fire brigade out  (remember to call 112, or 999) They also gave them a special Fire Safety pack to bring home to talk to their parents about, and the Infants sang them their 1o Little Fire Fighters song to say thank you! A huge thanks again to  Carl and Alan from the Dublin Fire Brigade for coming out and training our Junior Fire Fighters 🙂 To see the CSCNS Fire Fighters all ready to go in their special protective gear please click...

Junior Infants Rooms 1, 2 and 5 : Science Week

This week is Science Week in our school. Junior Infants had a very special team of scientists that came to do some fun experiments with us. Dr David Fitzpatrick from the National University of Ireland in Maynooth and his scientists visited us on Wednesday for a wonderful workshop. We got ready for the occasion and donned our laboratory coats and goggles! We grew bacteria in petri dishes, made our very own static electricity and even saw the scientists make ELEPHANT TOOTHPASTE!! For more photos please see here.    ...

Junior Infants Room 2: At the Fruit and Veg Shop

Room 2 learnt all about the Fruit and Vegetable shop last month! They had great fun singing and acting out their new rhyme ‘To Market’ , and dancing to the 7 potato song! They read a great story called ‘Handa’s Surprise‘, about a little African girl called Handa who decided to bring some fruit to her friend Akeyo but met some unexpected visitors along the way… watch it here  but turn down the volume so your Super Star can tell you the story! Room 2 got a surprise themselves, when Vinny brought them in ACTUAL fruit and vegetables to print with in art! They had great fun copying the shapes of the fruits and vegetables, and even got to try some during their ‘taste test’. Can you remember which ones you liked most? Room 2 have also been doing great learning in Maths, and have begun to write the numbers 1-5 independently. They have been sorting out all of Ms. Glynn’s collections into different sets, matching patterns, shapes, and animals, and are getting very good at it! They have been learning all about the season of Autumn in Science this term. They made lovely Autumn hedgehogs with Autumn leaves, and are getting really good at identifying the different seasons in their Autumn song! Check out the flags they made, celebrating how unique and special they all are as children of the world  ->   For more photos of Room 2 at work and play, please see here 🙂  ...

Junior Infants Room 2: Ready for Blast Off!

The Junior Infants in Room 2 have BLASTED into school this term and done fantastic learning so far! The children have been exploring the theme of ‘the family’ this month. They brought pictures of their own families into school, and have been taking turns telling all of their new friends about them! They have also been singing lots of nursery rhymes and songs about different families, such as the 5 Little Ducks , The Finger Family, and  They have reading stories about families too, using the pictures, and are becoming excellent storytellers! Room 2 have also been learning all about 2D shapes and love singing their shape song! They have become very quick at finding shapes in their environment too, in their classroom, school, yard, and even in their lunch boxes! They have been learning how to cut carefully, to colour inside the lines, and have started using pencils and practising tracing all sorts of lines so that they will become excellent writers later this year… According to the Room 2 Junior Infants however, their favourite thing of all in school is play time! They love playing with their new friends, and are getting really good at taking turns, sharing, and have really impressed Ms. Larkin and Vinny the class teddy with their clean up skills! Well done Room 2, you are SUPER STARS! For more photos of the Room2 Infants Blasting Off into school, please...
