Senior Infants Room 6: Fit4Skool

Room 6 are very lucky to be taking part in Fit4Skool and it is great to see everyone has registered on the website. This will hopefully improve our health and fitness and encourage the boys and girls to try a wider range of healthy foods. Every week a different sports coach is selected from the class. Today an unexpected lunch room inspection took place by our sports coach. This meant that children were awarded 1 point for bringing in a healthy lunch. Fit4Skool also picks one healthy vegetable and fruit every fortnight, allowing each child to gain extra points this week if they bring in lettuce and an apple as part of their lunch....

Senior Infants Room 6: Toby’s Lost Boot

Toby our class Teddy really wanted to go for a walk on the beach but lost his other boot. During our science lesson Room 6 investigated different materials that they could use to create a new boot for Toby. Each group predicted if each material would prevent Toby’s foot from getting wet. This was recorded on a worksheet before we began testing the materials. We used rolled up pieces of newspaper which acted as Toby’s foot. This was covered with either plastic, paper, fabric, tissue or net. This was then dipped in the basin for 10 seconds. Everyone was great at taking turns. Afterwards each group presented their results to the class. Room 6 found that Toby would be safe to wear a plastic boot to the beach until we find his real...

Senior Infants Room 6: Lá Glas

We had a great day on Friday celebrating Lá Glas with all the children and parents from Room 6. It was really enjoyable singing our songs from Bua na Cainte and performing ‘The Walls of Limerick’ in front of a great crowd. We each made a leprechaun hat and sang the song ‘An Leipreachán’. The boys and girls love to sing this song and pretend they’re fixing a small little shoe sitting under a tree, just like the leprechaun in the...

Senior Infants: Mechanical Engineers

Does anyone know what a mechanical engineer does? The children in Senior Infants could tell you. Last week Michael and Alan visited the school to tell us all about the different things that a mechanical engineer does. They spoke to us about robots, jets, roller coasters and cars. We learnt that mechanical engineers work in lots of different places including racing tracks, factories and offices. Mechanical engineers have helped to make some of the most amazing projects in the world like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the world’s tallest building in Dubai and the world’s fastest roller coaster in New Jersey. Thank you so much to Michael and Alan who gave a wonderful presentation. Please click here to see some more...
