What a fantastic sports day we had at CSCNS this year! Running, crawling, hopping, skipping, dancing, bouncing, throwing, catching, orienteering – you name it, the boys and girls at CSCNS can do it, with great skill and a smile on their faces! Some children were awarded with special medals for demonstrating particular effort, skill and talent – huge congrats to these winners! Absolutely ALL of the children should feel proud of themselves however for taking part, being active and healthy, and showing a great sense of sportsmanship at their sports day this year. Many thanks to all of the teachers and parents who helped to co-ordinate and facilitate the day, and special thanks to Ms Bates for overseeing it all and ensuring it was a great success! Room 2 love having visitors, and going on adventures! They have been particularly lucky over the last term, and have learnt so much from a number of special visitors, including their very own grandparents. The grandparents came and told them all about what school was like when they grew up. They did a wonderful job of answering the children’s questions, and even read them a number of stories. Huge thanks to the grandparents for coming in! The next visitor to Room 2 was the lovely Ms Rojak, who came to help the children learn lots in school. She even took them on a 3D shape hunt. What 3D shapes did they find around the school? Thanks for helping us learn Ms Rojak! The next visitor the children had was small, woolly, and a bit shy… can you guess what it was? A Spring lamb! They each had a turn to pet the baby lamb, and ask its owner about it. Many thanks to Care and Cuddles for bringing it in to show us. Next, as part of their learning the Room 2 super stars took a trip to the local café Insomnia as part of human rights month, to learn all about fair trade. Many thanks to the café manager Elizabeth, and to the mums and dads who accompanied us. Room 2 would also like to say a special thanks to Múinteoir Aoife, from Music Generation, for coming to teach them music this year. They loved learning all the wonderful songs and music games she taught them, and especially loved using her percussion instruments and...

Summer is finally here and the Junior Infants have been learning all about the summer season through their five senses- sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste. To celebrate their learning, they went on a nature hunt to the local park to look out for all the signs of summer. They completed a ‘signs of summer’ check list, played parachute games with their friends, and chilled out in the playground afterwards. Summer sure is fun! Can you see spot the signs of summer in their...

Room 5 conducted a taste test as part of an SPHE unit on the five senses. The theme of this unit is sensory perception – how the world becomes known to us is explored through our five senses. The lessons allow the children to experience all five senses. In order to heighten the children’s awareness of them, each lesson focuses on a different sense, particularly in relation to safety. The taste test allowed the children to explore their own personal preferences and gave them the vocabulary to describe different tastes. We also discussed the importance of making sure something is safe before we eat it. Here are some pictures of our taste test. We taste tested: Jellytots/chocolate (sweet) Natural Yoghurt (sour) Lemon (bitter) Tuc Crackers (salty) Ask me which one was my favourite!...

The children at CSCNS were extremely excited to welcome Irish International Sprinter Brian Gregan to the school on Friday, the 9th of March. The Dublin Athlete is the second fastest Irish man ever over 400m, and has represented Ireland in athletics all across the globe. Brian and his fellow sports stars led a high-energy sponsored fitness circuit with all the pupils at CSCNS, and really gave them a run for their sponsorship- money! After their work out, Brian spoke to the children about his background. They learnt that he had to overcome several challenges, including a very serious injury, to become the super athlete he is today. They asked him excellent questions, and learnt that he grew up in Tallaght, like many of them, and shared lunch with the Olypmic Games champion Usain Bolt! The aim of the event was ultimately to inspire the pupils to get involved in sports, to pursue their dreams in spite of challenges presented to them, and to raise additional funds for P.E. equipment for the school. Many thanks to Brian and all of the athletes who visited the school in conjunction with the Sports For Schools Initiative, and to Ms Bates for co-ordinating the visit. Special thanks must also be extended to all of the parents, relatives and friends who sponsored the children who participated, and well done to them for being such enthusiastic participants. We hope they will get much enjoyment and benefit out of the new PE equipment they have helped to raise funds for at their school over the coming years.
