Second Class Room 6: Collecting Data

On Tuesday, we walked to the Citywest Hotel bridge.  We were collecting information about the vehicles on the street.  We call that data.  We were counting how many vehicles went under the bridge.  We used tally marks to help us record.  We had to be very careful on the bridge and walking on the footpath. When we came back to the classroom we drew a graph using the squares in our copies.  The cars were the most popular vehicles.  Motor bikes, tractors and buses were the least popular vehicles.   To view more images click...

First Class Room 9: Talk on Syria

First and Second class had a very informative talk from Louise who works for GOAL. GOAL are an organisation that promote the right to basics of life, food, water, shelter, healthcare and literacy. Louise has recently spent some time in Syria and told us all about the devastating situation there that is causing families like you or I to run and flee their lovely homes. She showed us before pictures of the streets of Syria. It was a very beautiful place. Unfortunately now though because of the war people are leaving their country and looking for a safe place to shelter. Here in Citywest & Saggart CNS we are going to help them We are collecting foodstuffs for them and we are going to send them over to them in an airplane. We hope you can help them too! Junior Infants Room 2: Ready for Lift Off!

The Junior Infants in Room 2 were very busy this week exploring ‘family’ as a theme, and experimenting with 2D shapes. They made puppets and performed ‘The Five Little Ducks’ in their puppet theatre. They crafted their own 2D shape crowns, acted out ‘Jack and Jill’, and made and illustrated their own ‘Jack and Jill’ picture books to read to their families, exploring how we can use pictures to tell a story as well as words.  Room 2 created their own bear family with 2D shapes, and a reporter came and interviewed the Room 2 bears about how they felt about Goldilocks eating their porridge, sitting in their chairs, and sleeping in their beds! They helped to sort out Jack and Jill’s buckets for them, and to order all of the bears’ bowls, chairs, and beds! They also taught Vinny the class teddy bear how to sing and act out the ‘Teddy Bear Teddy Bear’ song.   For more photos of fun in the classroom please click...
