First Class Room 9: Clay Flower Pots

Spring has finally sprung! Did you know that the season of spring is now officially March, April and May. In times past we used to go by the ancient Celtic calendar when spring was February, March and April. But now according to Met Eireann spring is officially March, April and May. Spring has seen many of the bulbs we planted in winter spring up! There are beautiful hyacinths, daffodils and tulips in the school flower beds. Many thanks to Ms McCann for oganising the planting for the whole school. In Room 9 we ‘pinched’ clay pots and used pipe cleaners and egg cartons to make a beautiful floral arrangement! We hope you like the end results!   For more photos please click...

Junior Infants Room 2: Literacy Week and Seachtain Na Gaeilge

Room 2 had a great time celebrating Literacy Week and have become brilliant story tellers! They created their own wonderful mini-story books, making sure to include characters, a setting, a problem, solution and ending, and really enjoyed having the mums, dads, and First Class children come in and read stories to them. They re-enacted the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ in their puppet theatres, dressed up for World Book Day, and took part in a costume parade with all of their friends (and teachers!)  in Rooms 1 and 5. During Seachtain na Gaeilge the children made an extra effort to bí ag labhairt as Gaeilge (speaking Irish), and did a fantastic job of showing their families all the learning they have been doing in school trí Gaeilge on Lá Glás. As part of the week’s activities, they also printed shamrocks using apples, had a céilí in class, and were visited by Second Class children who taught them all about the Irish flag- can you remember what the three colours on the flag stand for? Maith sibh Seomra a dó, tá sibh ar fheabhas (you are wonderful) and míle buíochas (huge thanks) to all the parents and grandparents for taking such an active role in school activities over the last term. Happy holidays to all! For more photos of Room 2 at work and play please see...

Senior Infants Room 4: Story Cubes

We have been writing our own stories over the past few weeks. We have been using story cubes to help us write our stories. Today we rolled the story cubes to find out what characters and which setting we would be writing about. We had a choice between a princess and a cat as our characters and a house and under the sea as our settings. We always begin our stories with One day. There is always a problem in our story and we also need to solve this problem. We wrote some very interesting stories!     Please click here to see some more...

Senior Infants Room 4: It’s all about the Books

We had a fantastic week during Literacy Week. On Wednesday we dressed up as our favourite character from a book. There were pirates, princesses, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf all listening to stories read by two of our Mums. It was brilliant to see all of the children listening to the different stories. Today we bought our very own book, it was very exciting! We also went up to the amazing school library to pick some books and read through some wonderful stories. Please click here to see some more photos of Literacy...

First Class Room 8: WORLD BOOK DAY!

Today we celebrated World Book Day. We dressed up as our favourite characters from stories we have read. Some of us were princess, some of us were wizards and witches from Hogwarts and some of us were even superheroes! The day began with Jamal’s Daddy coming in to read us a story called ‘Whatever Next’ with us. It was reallyt fun to have a parent read to us in our classroom. After break, we were so excited because Ms Bates told us that a famous Author Gillian Perdue was visiting us! Gill read us her story called Conor’s Cowboy Suit! It was a very funny book and we even acted it out. After we acted out the story Gill took room 8 for some line dancing. We each were given cowboy hats and we acted out different cowboy scenes.. we even…. LINE DANCED, just like a real cowboy. When we were all worn out from pretending to be cowboys, we were given a colouring competition. We concentrated really hard.Fingers crossed somebody in Room 8 will win. We cannot wait to read more books by Author Gillian Perdue! Click here to see some photgraphs...

First Class Room 8: Laptops have arrived!

Wow! what an exciting week in Room 8. New laptops have arrived to the school and we each got to use them. We were shown how to go on to the internet and how to type in websites. We know to be safe while on the internet and to ask for help if something appears on our screen which we do not like. We read stories to our partner online and painted pretty pictures. It was a lot of fun to learn using technology. We love laptops. Please click here to see some...
