Senior Infants Room 6: Fit4Skool

Room 6 are very lucky to be taking part in Fit4Skool and it is great to see everyone has registered on the website. This will hopefully improve our health and fitness and encourage the boys and girls to try a wider range of healthy foods. Every week a different sports coach is selected from the class. Today an unexpected lunch room inspection took place by our sports coach. This meant that children were awarded 1 point for bringing in a healthy lunch. Fit4Skool also picks one healthy vegetable and fruit every fortnight, allowing each child to gain extra points this week if they bring in lettuce and an apple as part of their lunch....

Principal: Junior Achievement Award

I am delighted that we were successful in our application to participate in the Junior Achievement Awards! This involves volunteers from local businesses coming out to the school and delivering lessons to the children on various topics. Most big companies have a Social Responsibility Fund where they give back to the community and this is one way that they do it. It is a great opportunity for the children to hear about life outside the classroom. We are very fortunate in Citywest to be so close to many big companies. We hope to develop our relationships with these overtime. I am sure in the future we will be able to organise site visits to some of them. Two volunteers will be working for 5 weeks (5 lessons) with some Senior Infant classes this term but we will have much more from September onwards. You’d never know, your child might find out at a very early age what they want to be after they finish school! For more information, please visit...

Junior Infants Room 2: Writing k

The children in room 2 have learned to write a lot of letters with loops. This week we learned to write /k/. Everyone puts a great deal of time to practice their handwriting, and concentrates so well. Great job! Our next letter this week will be...

Principal: Our Beliefs’ Space

It was great to see our Beliefs’ Ceremony featured in ‘The Echo’ paper this morning. It is a fantastic article, however, no words could capture that magical atmosphere that was in the school foyer that morning. It was so moving to see how respectful everybody was of the different beliefs and religions that were described. There have been a number of occasions since we opened this school that I have nearly levitated with pride and this was most certainly one of them. The parents present showed their absolute commitment to our ethos of inclusion and the celebration of diversity and that was amazing. A special word of thanks to Mr. Kinsella who orchestrated the whole event....

Senior Infants Room 6: Alexander Graham Bell

This week we have been learning all about Alexander Graham Bell and his invention of the telephone. We imagined what life would be like if we had no phone and we discussed various ways of how we could stay in contact with our family and friends that live far away. We also decided to make our own telephones where we used paper cups and string to talk to each other....
