Mrs Swan is so impressed with how many special maths words they are using. Words that the children are being encouraged to use are collections, sets, same and different. Second Class Room 6: Collecting Data

On Tuesday, we walked to the Citywest Hotel bridge.  We were collecting information about the vehicles on the street.  We call that data.  We were counting how many vehicles went under the bridge.  We used tally marks to help us record.  We had to be very careful on the bridge and walking on the footpath. When we came back to the classroom we drew a graph using the squares in our copies.  The cars were the most popular vehicles.  Motor bikes, tractors and buses were the least popular vehicles.   To view more images click...

Principal: Eid Mubarak (Happy Eid)

I would like to wish all of the Muslim families in our school and wider community an Eid Mubarak. We had a wonderful celebration in the school this morning. I was delighted with the turn-out. What struck me most about this morning’s celebration was the amount of parents and children of other faith/belief traditions that came along to celebrate with with our Muslim friends and neighbours.   Our Muslim children sang one of our favourite songs from the GMGY! program for Muslims. Maryam spoke beautifully about what Eid means to her. She reminded us of how lucky we are to be in a space where children and parents of all faiths/beliefs can come together to celebrate each other’s differences. We hope to organise similar mornings for all our families which will celebrate their beliefs/faiths this year. I look forward to working with our families on this. Please see some more pictures here of the event.  ...

Second Class Room 6: Skype Call to Kerry

Today we skyped Kerry.  We skyped boys and girls in 4th Class in Kerry.  We sang a song called ‘Sam is Coming Home‘.  We want Dublin to win the Sam Maguire cup by beating Kerry in Croke Park on Sunday.  We hope the people on Hill 16 will be very happy. UP THE DUBS! See more photos...

Principal: Look Out for our Cyclists

Hi all I am delighted with the increase in people walking, scooting and cycling to school. What a great way to start the day! We are hoping to get more bike racks in soon so that they can be parked safely during the day. If you are driving to school, please be very mindful of the children who are cycling. It is now illegal for cyclists to cycle on footpaths and no exceptions have been made for young children, therefore the road must be shared. A particularly busy spot is on Garter’s Lane running along the entrance to Citywest Hotel. There are children from 3 different primary schools using this road so please make sure that you slow down make a safe distance between them and your car. There is currently a nationwide campaign to legalise a safe 1.5m overtaking distance. Please continue to use more active ways of coming to school! Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter. I am sure that everyone will put the safety of all children first....
