Principal: Polish classes for Polish children

Hi all Research shows that children who are extremely competent in their 1st language learn their second language much better. Therefore, it is really important that children become proficient at speaking, reading and writing the language spoken in the home. This will enable them to develop a far richer vocabulary and sentence structure in the English language. Please see our Language Policy in the policy section of the website to see how we encourage the use of a child’s first language. I am delighted to tell you that we have a Polish teacher coming to the school on Tuesday to speak with Polish parents about the possibility of running Polish classes after school. She will meet with the parents of Junior and Senior Infants together and 1st and 2nd Class together. Junior and Senior Infants: 1.45 p.m. in Room 1 1st and 2nd Classes: 2.45 p.m. in Room 1 I know that many of our Polish children already attend Polish classes in different areas in Dublin. However, this may save you a lot of time travelling. Please come along to the meeting next week to find out more. Séamus...

Junior Infants Room 5: Classroom Visitor

Today, room 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from Gary, a parent of one of the children. Gary works at the post office in Tallaght, and came in to chat to the children about all of the different things he and his co-workers do everyday. He explained how the mail needs to be sorted into many sections before it is sent out to our addresses. He even took some photographs to show us what the post office looks like! This month in our classroom, we are learning about the many different people who live and work in our community. Gary is one of those people, and we were so happy to have him in our class today! Thanks Gary! To see more pictures of Gary’s visit, click here....

Senior Infants Room 7: 3D Shapes and Construction

This week we have started exploring the theme of construction. In maths we looked at 3-D shapes, we even learned a poem which helps us remember the names of the shapes. If you have any 3-D shapes at home (pringle boxes, tissue boxes etc.) send them in and we can add them to our 3-D shapes display. We also played a fun 3-D shapes game on the interactive white board, why not give it a try here! We made great Lego constructions during play time and experimented with junk art constructions too.   For more photos please click...
